My Golfing Experience with the Indian River Golf Foundation

It all started for me when I was in the 5th grade. My mom signed me up for golf with the Indian River Golf Foundation. I have to say at first I was not thrilled.  My parents always encouraged, I like to say push, me into trying new things.  They knew early on that I was not into running, so golf was my only option. I began to go to IRGF’s after school’s golf program and skills challenges at various golf courses and found myself really enjoying it.  I was able to get my first set of clubs with help from the program until I could get my own.   I learned how to swing a club, and learned the rules of the game.

I am now 15 years old, and I still play golf. I absolutely love it!  I am on the golf team at Sebastian River High School.  I play in any tournament that I can with IRGF and have also started to work with IRGF’s after school program during the week. I work with elementary and middle school students starting out in golf.   We work on skills that IRGF’s pros and volunteers helped me with at their same age.   When I walk around with other players from schools we compete against during a match, I am confident from my experiences with golf that I can carry on a conversation with my opponent. Golf has given me the opportunity to meet many new people and play on beautiful golf courses that I would’ve only dreamed of playing on.  The ultimate goal that I am striving for would be to get a golf scholarship to Flagler College in St. Augustine.

Golf has opened many doors for me and I can’t wait to see what my future holds.  The opportunities golf will give me is endless and for this I have to thank my parents for signing me up, and Indian River Golf Foundation for giving me the opportunity to play and learn golf under such wonderful guidance.  Without IRGF, I would have never found the love for the game.
