About Us
Rooted in Tradition. Driven by Purpose. Focused on Youth.
The Indian River Golf Foundation (IRGF) is dedicated to developing youth through the game of golf, offering programs that inspire confidence, character, and lifelong skills both on and off the course.
Since our founding more than 17 years ago, IRGF has grown into a trusted resource for families, schools, and communities across Indian River County and beyond. We serve young athletes from elementary school to the highest levels of competitive junior golf, helping each player progress with purpose, no matter their starting point.
Our work is guided by five pillars: golf skills, course management, rules and etiquette, leadership and life skills, and self-care. These principles form the heart of every IRGF program and create a path for personal and athletic growth.
Our Mission
The mission of the Indian River Golf Foundation is to create expanded opportunities, promote activities, honor the traditions of the game, and recognize those who have demonstrated high levels of performance and outstanding contributions to the game of golf in Indian River County.
We foster learning and excellence in player development for golfers of all ages by working with area golf professionals, public and private golf facilities, educational institutions, volunteers, and local government — creating a safe, affordable, and enriching experience in the game of golf.
Our Vision
To grow the game by growing people.
To build a generation of golfers who lead on and off the course.
To remove barriers and open doors — through golf, mentorship, and belief.

Our Story
Founded in 2008 by longtime PGA Professional Roger Van Dyke, the Indian River Golf Foundation began with a simple question: How can we make golf more accessible to all kids in our community? What started as a few junior clinics has grown into a full developmental pipeline — from first swings in PE class to collegiate tournaments and leadership opportunities. Now, IRGF serves over 300 youth annually, across 17+ courses, 12+ schools, and three counties. Alumni return as mentors, cadets become leaders, and families find a lasting community in the game of golf.
What Makes IRGF Different?
We don’t just teach golf.
We build character, confidence, and community.
Through our Five Pillars of Development, every youth player learns:
- Golf Skills – Swing fundamentals, short game, and scoring
- Course Management – Strategy, decision-making, and adaptability
- Rules & Etiquette – Respect for the game and others
- Leadership & Life Skills – Service, communication, responsibility
- Self-Care – Wellness, mindset, emotional control, and discipline
These aren’t just golf lessons. They’re life lessons — delivered in the language of the game.
