Establish a Database of participants, host facilities, leadership teams & volunteers

Communication skills and promotions

Assist in Program Implementation (player registration, monitoring, scoring, refreshments, etc.)

Serve as a coach or volunteer at the Elementary, Middle School or High School level

Organizing parents of junior golfers

Serve on a Leadership Team planning and implementing a new program

Offer time, talents and experience in fundraising

Assist in equipment set up for all training sessions or competitions

Renie Calkin – PGA Life Member

Volunteer – Indian River Golf Foundation

Renie Calkin is a graduate of Penn State University where she was a scholarship recipient

on the Women’s Golf Team – winner of five collegiate tournaments including two

EAIAW championships – qualified for the U.S. Women’s Open her freshman year.

 

Renie was one of the first women to become a Class A Member of the PGA.

Her career included –

  •             Head Golf Professional – New Seabury Country Club – Cape Cod
  •               Head Golf Professional – St. Lawrence University – Canton NY
  •              Head Golf Professional – Prairie Landing Golf Club – West Chicago, IL.
  •             Illinois Merchandiser of the Year –Public Category,
  •             2003 Joe Jemsek Par Excellence Award Recipient
  •             Prairie Landing was awarded a Top 100 Golf Shop consecutive years.

Married to her husband Steve for 39 years.

 

Their son and daughter both earned Division I College golf scholarships.

Michael had three top ten finishes on the AJGA including winning the AJGA

John Deere ’01.  He qualified for the USGA Junior Amateur Championship, USGA Pub Links

Championship and Western Amateur.  He played his college golf at Miami University, Oxford, OH.

 

Their daughter Kelly earned a golf scholarship to the University of Maryland.

She was ACC All-Conference Player two years, Academic All-Conference two years and

All-American academic one year.  Kelly won the Southern Atlantic Amateur (SALLY), the

International Four-Ball and individually the University of Louisville collegiate

tournament. Maryland qualified for NCAA Regional play two of her four years.

 

Renie is a valued volunteer for the IRGF.  She is seen most frequently checking in players at tournaments, training sessions, skills challenges and prior to the four IRGF Grand Slam Tournaments.

 

The Indian River Golf Foundation is proud to have established the Renie Calkin Award to individuals who demonstrate  Perseverance – Overcoming Adversity – Dedication to Purpose while Promoting the Game of Golf.
