Atlantic Junior Golf Tour (AJGT) est. 2010
Suitable For Both Developing And Experienced Players.
The Atlantic Junior Golf Tour is a great way to refine your skills and experience healthy competition. Are you interested in a sport that offers minimal contact and the chance to develop critical life skills? Look no further than golf!
Golf is a great way to get some exercise! While it is not a high-intensity activity, golfers do a lot of walking. Because of this, the University of Edinburgh suggests that playing golf can actually increase life expectancy.
The sport has a number of different benefits, including:
- Relief of stress and anxiety
- Burning up to 2,000 calories
- A low impact workout
- Meeting new people and forming life-long friendships.
Beginning a new sport can be challenging. After all, we all have to start as beginners! If you are interested in joining a golf tour specifically designed to help you improve your skills, join Indian River Golf Foundation’s Atlantic Junior Golf Tour! We offer a number of different services for all young players, regardless of skill set.
Benefits of Junior Golf Competition
There are many benefits for children who compete in sports. In addition to the obvious increased physical activity, there are many psychological benefits as well. Golf is a skill-based sport that requires hours of practice and education. When students see their skills improving, it gives them a sense of accomplishment and confidence. Once a student has reached a certain level of competence, they want to show off their skills and put them to the test! By competing in something like a Junior Golf Tour, students not only build confidence in their own abilities, but they have a chance to discover areas in which they can improve.
Golf Psychology
Golf is known to be as much a psychological sport as it is a physical one. In a competitive environment, the psychological element really comes into play. Competing will help students build resilience, patience, and self-control. If they are doing well, they will have to keep themselves from becoming prideful or complacent. If they are not doing well, they will have to find ways to overcome self-doubt and develop perseverance. All of these skills are valuable and easily translated into nearly all other aspects of life.
Beyond the inner psychology of golf, there is a lot of thinking and strategy that goes along with the external game. Students must strategize for each hole. They have to judge distance, choose the right club, and plan each shot. This is a bit different than many other sports, which are more reactive, with things happening quickly around players. Golfers can take their time to really analyze and develop their plan for success. If things don’t go as planned, they must assess their new situation, making the best of it. Who among us has ever had our plans go the way we expected? Adaptation could be argued as one of the most important skills to develop in all of life. Golf is a perfect opportunity to put this skill into practice.
Purpose of the Atlantic Junior Golf Tour
Here at Indian River Golf Foundation, we believe in helping children across Indian, St. Lucie, and Brevard Counties learn the sport of golf and how it can be influential in their lives. That is why we have two specific purposes for the AJGT that we hope resonates with all of our players.
The first purpose is to provide tournament experiences for young developing players. We want to give our players the chance to show off the skills that they have learned through IRGF training in a real-life competitive setting. The second purpose is to build confidence, character, and leadership in all of our players. Learning golf also means learning self-discipline and how to lead a team. Therefore, the skills our players learn from golf, they can use throughout the rest of their professional and personal lives.
